A lot of things that happen on Mr. Jones, Timmah, and my annual golfing holiday, Golfapalooza, aren't fit for general consumption. It's not that the stories are bad, or that we do evil things, but after 10 years of doing this, most of the stories don't make sense to anyone but us! We laugh at the same jokes (or make new jokes based on old jokes), or say seemingly innocuous comments that are hilarious to us, but "just weird" to others. This one however, this one needs to be shared...
It actually started on Monday at Black Mountain, on the par 3 number 4. A beautifully elevated tee box leads to a nice green with water on one side and sand on the other. Timmah hit a great shot that landed just short of the green and started to roll towards the hole! We really thought for a second that it had a chance of going in, but it stopped about a foot away (he birdied the hole).
Jump ahead now to Wednesday at Tower Ranch...At the 7 hole, a 165 yard par 3 that's slightly downhill with water on the left. We all knew the play was to go right and let the slope carry it back towards the hole (and stay away from the water), Timmah was first up and hit a nice, gently fading shot to the right and as we figured, the ball started to roll towards the whole... And it kept going towards the hole... And then it disappeared! Mr. Jones was the first to exclaim it, but it was a ways out and we couldn't be 100% sure. Mr. Jones hit our tee shots (that was a challenge as all we were thinking about was Timmah's shot) and jetted towards the green. As we approached we could only account for two balls, which meant Timmah's was IN THE HOLE!
It was awesome to be part of that, it really was, probably the highlight of my golfing "career". Many congrats to Timmah for getting his first Ace and many thanks for doing it on Golfapalooza when we were all there.
